The design process has been mostly intuitive and based on experimentation, but I am going to try to explain the main reasons for the shape below:
1. “Its a short board in a longer board”
You can approach it as a longboard or as a shortboard. Sometimes even in the same wave. Paddle and take off like a longboard, turn deep as a shortboard and then run up to the nose gliding high on the wave. The board is reactive to how you want to surf that particular wave and explore each wave. The short board tail deliver speed and grip in steeper waves, where as the mid section offer glide and momentum for the flatter sections of the wave.
2. “I took away instead of adding to traditional forms, enabling me greater opportunity to shape the board”
I redistributed volume from the waist to the tail and moved the wide point further back to where you ride the board. The more curved rail allows the board to turn better.
3. “What’s up with the tail?”
The long tail balance out the wider hips for awesome drive and speed. I believe in proportions of the nature. If you change a shape in one direction the flow on effect undoubtedly changes it in the other
4. “Its still a longboard”
The length and thick waist makes it paddle very well. It is also nose riding well with its traditional nose, the hips help as they hug the wave.
5. “A different feeling”
Its the feeling that matters when you surf, and this board for sure gives you a new different feeling of glide, turn and speed.
